Gangster Disciples
Gang effects on Chicago have had a huge toll on this city for many years. Lets take a long storied gang like the
Gangster Disciples and use them as an example. This gang dates all the way back to the 1960s. They had/have an estimated amount of 10,000-30,000 members dispersed all over the city of Chicago. They are responsible for probably one of the most tragic events in Chicago history. Lets skip ahead to 1984. That is when the murder of Ben Wilson occurred. This prep high school was shot on Vincennes Avenue, just outside Simeon Vocational High School, where he attended. Two teenagers Billy Moore (age 16) and Omar Dixon (age 15) were responsible for this tragedy. Billy Moore (who actually fired the gun) was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment. However, there were a few law changes as a result of this incident. Before this, gun victims were ordered to be sent to the nearest hospital. After the incident, gun victims were ordered to go to the nearest trauma center with a full staff on duty. This helped save thousands of lives that year. It also led to stricter gun laws in the city of Chicago.
